"What: A new show celebrating the synthesis between concepts and commerce in the form of artwork, furniture, goods, clothing, and accessories. Everything in the gallery is up for grabs, from a paperback novel to the art on the walls. Why: Works from artists across the country inspired by the seemingly incongruous theme of the Santa Fe Astronaut (think the Southwest with a dash of Buzz Aldrin)." Read more...
"The goal of Fleeting Immersion co-creators Janet Varney and Jessica Makinson is "the fusion of concept and commerce" — taking a thematic profile of a gallery exhibition and applying it to not only art pieces but also handmade treasures, vintage finds and more, all contained within a pop-up shop location (this time, at Tinlark Gallery in the historic Crossroads of the World complex) for a limited run." "This pop-up gallery/shop's entirely decorated around the weirdo theme "Santa Fe Astronaut" and's decked out like a futuristic desert house with literally everything for sale, from Native American-style furniture and tee-shirts, to eerie moonscape paintings, to snowglobes commemorating a fictional desert/moon landing..." "I normally post on local events happening here in New York (that I can attend), but this was too good not to share. If you're in the LA area you should definitely check out the art installation/pop-up shop Fleeting Immersion, which opens this Friday and runs for one week at the Tinlark Gallery. Janet Varney and Jessica Makinson have transformed the gallery space to look like a real house, complete with vintage furniture, upcycled and new clothing, crafts, affordable art and accessories." "The opening for "Fleeting Immersion" in LA was incredible and one of the most fun art shows I've ever had the pleasure of participating in! Inventively curated & installed by Janet Varney and Jessica Makinson, the gallery was transformed into a living space full of imported furnishings and artwork for the inspired theme "Santa Fe Astronaut" (you'll get it when you see it!)."
"Susie Ghahremani's [Fleeting Immersion] paintings are so fabulous. I had a chance to chat with Susie at last night's opening reception of Fleeting Immersion at Tinlark Gallery. She said she was really inspired by the theme "Santa Fe Astronaut" and she had fun creating these pieces for the show. While I've never been to the Southwest, I could really feel the Santa Fe vibe in this installation. Curators Janet Varney and Jessica Makinson have done a fantastic job of gathering eclectic artists and collecting unique display items."
